New oil filter adapter for R 5 series vacuum pumps
To take advantage of the benefits provided by full synthetic oils, Busch now offers a new bolt on oil filter adapter for all R 5 series vacuum pumps. The new adapter repositions the spin-on oil filter to a vertical, self-draining position to allow changing of the oil filter without draining or changing the pump oil.
A key benefit of using synthetic oil is extended drain intervals which does require that the oil be continually filtered to remove particulates. Oil sampling and testing are used to monitor the condition of the oil and determine when the oil filter should be changed (and also when the lubricant should be changed), increasing oil drain intervals and saving time and money.
Extensive field work with one of the major meat packaging companies in the United States has demonstrated that the new oil filter adaptor really works. For many of their R 5 pumps, oil drain intervals were extended up to 8,000 hours, with some pumps exceeding 10,000 hours (based on regular, routine oil sampling, oil testing and oil filter changes).
Additional benefits realized with using synthetic oil in R 5 series rotary vane vacuum pumps configured with a Busch oil filter adapter included:
• Enhanced pump reliability
• Minimized downtime
• Reduced pump failures
• Improved oil/water separation
• Extended exhaust filter service

Applying Professional Training "Made in Germany"
 | |

The US-delegation with their hosts at Busch: f. l.: Dr. Karl Busch, Scott Hall, Ayhan Busch, Thomas Clemens, William D. Sessoms, Warren Harris, Beverly Sessoms, Kaya Busch
|
The mayor of Virginia Beach, William D. Sessoms, recently visited the parent company of Virginia Beach-based Busch Manufacturing LLC in Germany to learn about the German dual educational system. This system combines apprenticeships with a company and education at a vocational school. It is the most common form of professional training in Germany and is practiced at Busch. Mayor Sessoms plans to start an apprenticeship initiative for professions in the metal industry and wants to cooperate with the Germans on the project.
The visit gave the mayor and his delegation the chance to experience first-hand how the dual system is organized at Busch. Host and company founder, Dr. Karl Busch, told his visitors that he encouraged and supported their apprenticeship initiative. He emphasized that the profound professional training provided at his German plant made it relatively easy to have qualified staff and develop know-how.

Busch adds an on-site cleanroom to its Austin, TX facility
Busch has added an ISO Class 8 (US Customary Class 100,000) cleanroom at our Austin, TX repair center. To ensure quality, all turbo and cryo pumps are 100% assembled, tested and packaged exclusively in the climate controlled environment to limit pollutants like dust, airborne microbes and other internal and external contaminants.
The cleanroom further enhances extended in-house vacuum pump service capabilities that include part and component machining, coating, testing, documentation and online order tracking. Additionally, our worldwide service support network boasts an extensive online database of training and technical materials to assist our technicians with the proper procedures in all aspects of the pump repair process.
We provide expert repairs on our full line of Busch products, as well as on over 300 pump models from other major manufacturers of wet and dry pumps, boosters, turbo and cryo pumps. We also offer an exchange pump program for those times when pump repair is imminent or required and where turnaround time is critical.

Busch USA now manufactures Dolphin LX B series vacuum pumps
Busch has begun production of our new Dolphin LX B series liquid ring vacuum pumps at our US manufacturing facility in Virginia Beach, VA. Offering improved pumping speeds at deeper vacuum levels, these high-efficiency, single-stage pumps provide end vacuum levels comparable to most two-stage designs.
All Dolphin LX series vacuum pumps are of a compact, motor-mounted design; ideal for a wide range of wet or corrosive applications. The standard construction of each includes cast iron housing, a 316 stainless steel impeller, replaceable port plate and mechanical seal. Requiring minimal maintenance, these rugged pumps are an economical alternative to traditional close-coupled, separate-drive or base-mounted liquid ring configurations.

Busch rotary claw vacuum systems reduce energy and maintenance costs
Busch rotary claw vacuum systems with variable speed controls provide true on-demand performance for a wide range of industrial processes and applications. These high-efficiency systems automatically regulate the speed of the individual pump modules to match the system load, greatly reducing both energy and maintenance costs.
As an example, a recent customer replaced their existing 40 HP rotary screw vacuum pumps with a 40 HP Busch Mink rotary claw vacuum system to operate up to 20 forming machines. The new system reduced their overall electrical consumption by approximately 40% during peak loads and by greater than 90% during non-peak loads. Additionally, since there is not any routine maintenance to perform, the costs incurred from regular oil and exhaust filter changes the rotary screw pumps required were eliminated.

Busch Mink vacuum pumps qualify for custom energy rebates
Busch Mink series rotary claw vacuum pumps can reduce energy consumption by 25% or more, often qualifying for custom energy rebates through local utility companies. With their unique non-contacting, rotary claw design, no energy is wasted from internal friction so brake horsepower is lower compared to conventional pump technologies. Additionally, when matched with PLC based variable speed controls, energy efficiency is further enhanced as the pumps only run at the speed required to match the demand.
As an example, a recent customer replaced their existing vacuum system with a new Busch Mink series rotary claw vacuum system with variable speed control. The result was an impressive 80% reduction in running horsepower, from 100 to 20. In addition to the electrical savings realized, the system also qualified for a custom energy rebate which helped offset the system capital cost and increase the customers ROI (return on investment).

Busch introduces new COBRA dry screw vacuum pumps for the semiconductor industry
Busch, a world-leading manufacturer of vacuum pumps and vacuum systems has launched a new range of dry screw vacuum pumps for the semiconductor industry. The COBRA DS series is designed to maximize production uptime and provide a high return on investment (ROI).
All COBRA DS pumps are of a single stage design, requiring fewer moving parts compared to multi-stage dry pumps. With fewer moving parts, not only are service intervals extended, but nitrogen consumption is also greatly reduced.
With our advanced on-board controls and diagnostics, the pump can be directly interfaced to the process tool. The compact universal interface unit also allows for the monitoring of operating parameters including water flow, nitrogen flow, motor speed and motor current. Idle mode capability ensures that pump speed is automatically controlled to match system load, further reducing power, water and nitrogen costs.
All COBRS DS pumps are designed with an indirect cooling system to provide uniform temperatures throughout the pump, eliminating cold spots to provide a thermally stable water jacket. Each comes housed in a vented, standard enclosure that ensures low noise levels, a compact, small footprint, and simple connectivity.
Headquartered in Virginia Beach, VA, Busch USA provides a full range of vacuum solutions for industrial, laboratory, process and fine vacuum applications. For additional information on our COBRA DS series vacuum pumps, visit us at www.buschusa.com/products/product-portfolio/cobra-semicon/info/, or call us at 1-800-USA-PUMP.
